Five elements in your chart
Common mistake:“I lack Water, so I must buy a north-facing house.” No. You can add an element with color, decor, a plant or a small fountain. Price, schools, commute and the inspection report matter far more when you pick a home. And a chart with a weak element isn’t a bad chart. It just tells you what to add.
How it works
Year pillar changes at Lập Xuân (around Feb 4), not at Tết. Month pillar changes at each of the 12 solar terms (tiết). So Bát tự years and months can differ from the lunar calendar.
Day pillar follows the local birth date. Hour pillar uses 2-hour blocks (Tý 23–1h, Sửu 1–3h…). Use the clock where you were born. US births: local time, with daylight saving if it applied.
Element count: each heavenly stem = 1 point, hidden stems in each branch = 1 / 0.5 / 0.3. Strong or weak = your element plus the one that feeds it, versus the other three. The month branch gets a bonus. This is a simplified method; a full reading weighs more factors.
