How do I find a mover who won't hold my stuff hostage?

Check the permit in 2 minutes, ask the right 10 questions, and compare 3 quotes on your phone. No sign-up.

      Compare up to 3 quotes

Fill in up to 3. The score updates as you type. A quote with no verified license is never the pick, no matter how cheap.

      1. This week, call 3 movers and ask for a visual survey (home visit or live video). Use the 10 questions above.
      2. Look up each permit on DCA License Search (out of state: FMCSA) before you compare prices.
      3. Enter the 3 quotes above and book the top score. Get the paperwork at least 3 days before move day.
      4. Plan the move with the 8-week checklist T100 and recheck the cost with T101.

Common misconception: "The cheapest quote saves the most." In moving, a quote far below the rest is often the trap: they load your things, then add fees and will not unload until you pay. What protects you is a written Not-to-Exceed from a permitted mover, not the low number.
